Amsterdam: Red Lights and Green Cigarettes

You must be dying to know the answer to all the questions in the last blog post. Well, clearly, we have made it to the second post, so the answer to ten is (lucky for you) YES!

1) Yes, we made it to the airport on time. Britt remembered all of her pharmaceuticals... and her bed bug sheet worked out perfectly... zero bites... (Yay, says Ashley; So far, says Britt). JD is still wearing clean underwear (as far as Britt and Ashley know). Ashley hasn't detoured onto her own trip without the Boudreau's, in fact, everybody is getting along great.

2) Nobody rode a bike in Amsterdam, because, did you know, NOBODY wears a bike helmet... Ahh brain injuries! They did have bicycles built for three... a parent and two children... could you imagine Ashley biking with a Boudreau on the back and the front?

Overall, we had an AMazing time in AMsterdam...

Where we stayed: St. Christopher's Hostel (The Winston) on Warmoesstraat, one of the streets that borders the Red Light District (Note: also known as the street with the most coffee shops, 10, to be exact and for leather bars). It was centrally located, very near the train station and all of the action of downtown Amsterdam, which was fantastic except when we wanted to go to sleep before 4 a.m. - our hostel was literally located on top of the most happening club in the area. They play music until 4 a.m. on weekdays and 5 a.m. on weeknights.

What we ate: Croquettes, and... Dutch meatballs that seemed the same as croquettes...fries with mayonnaise, cheese and... other non-Dutch food like pizza, burgers, nachos and caesar salad.

What we drank: Beer, beer and more beer. Luckily the "pints" were actually half-pints (tolerable for non-beer drinker Ashley).

What we did: walked, a LOT. We did a walking tour and learned about the history of Amsterdam, saw Ann Frank's House, did a walking tour of the Red Light District, walked to the Van Gogh Museum, tried to walk to a Windmill, got lost, took a tram to a Windmill and walked home from it (It was a great Windmill). Lounged, a BIT. Drank beers by a canal, relaxed in a coffee shop, went to pubs.

What we learned: Look both ways before crossing the street or you will get hit by a bike; Do your research before plugging a hair straightener into a European outlet, you might blow a fuse and almost blow up your hostel; Maps are not wrong, if you don't know where you are, it's because you are wrong.

Best conversation overheard: "You shagged a whore, what's your girlfriend going to think about that?" (said in a british accent)

The rest of what happened in Amsterdam stays in Amsterdam (or, maybe we have a few more stories to tell when we get home...) We have now arrived in Berlin safely, we are pretty sure we are on the right side of the wall but we don't really know where we are or where the wall is, it's very confusing! We have a few new questions that will be answered:

1) Will Brittany get into her suitcase? (She accidentally re-set the combination lock)

2) Will JD find pretzels, doner kebab, bratwurst, and all things German that he desires? Will he learn how to look at a camera when a photo is being taken?

3) Can Ashley convince JD and Britt to believe she is now a "beer drinker"?

Stay tuned!
